Vattenfall’s dam in Pamilo is secured with FinMeas measuring technology. Because of FinMeas’ service, the function of the dam can be monitored in real-time.
The Pamilo dam is monitored with FinMeas’ automatic pore pressure devices. The devices are installed in the dam and information of the dam’s situation is automatically transferred to the cloud service, where the person-in-charge can examine the measuring information. If the set values exceed or fall below, the system automatically sends alarm by email or SMS.
“Because of the alarms we can sleep our nights peacefully. The alarms give us time to react. We have time to analyse the measuring information and find a reason for the possible changes”, says Kari Niemelä from Vattenfall.
With automatic monitoring, no one has to go to the site personally. For this reason, the automated measuring system is especially good while monitoring dams: No person can see inside the dam the same way the sensors can – the inner erosion cannot be detected on site.
“If time is lost, there is the risk that the erosion inside the dam develops too much”, continues Niemelä.
With the FinMeas’ system, the monitoring of the site is also not geographically restricted. The Pamilo dam is situated in Finland but it is monitored with the system also from Sweden.
